ObGyn Residents Community Service Project Recognized Nationally

Resident Community Outreach Group

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health Residents have started a program to provide health resources and education for women of all ages in under served communities in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

As women's health is an important indicator of the health of a community, the residents and medical students decided they were in a unique position to be able to provide health education and resources to underserved women in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and help them to access better care in their local clinics. The resident group will be working in coordination with shelters and community groups in the area to identify people who would benefit. Each fair will be run by OBGYN residents and Medical Students from the University of Minnesota.

Their efforts are part of the Junior Fellow Initiative Tool Kit project, sponsored by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

The resident committee raised their own funds at the MN ACOG meeting in November and did a toiletry drive over the holiday season. You can also check out what they've got planned on Facebook: University of Minnesota Women's Health Fair.
