Updates from my summer in Ethiopia
I returned to Rwanda after a busy summer. I spent the early part of the summer working with two highly motivated and skilled fellows in Ethiopia. I am now working to organize my ideas about how to best integrate any possible help our Division can provide. The fellows I worked with in Ethiopia are now running their own oncology clinic and I am working to put into place as many treatment protocols as possible. We have to adapt many protocols to accommodate the resources available. I miss all of my partners and believe all your skills are highly needed here.
In 2015 we started a neo-adjuvant cervix protocol and this resulted in significant increases in the volume of patients eligible for radical hysterectomy. I suspect I will be doing a lot of hysterectomies this upcoming year.
The picture below is me with the two fellows I worked with in Ethiopia and our German collaborator at St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College.
Dr. Sue Petzel is coming to help me in Rwanda for a few weeks this fall and I hope more of you will have the chance to visit.
